I cut my paper to 7 1/4 by 10. I scored at 2 inches for an inside flap, 8 for a bottom pocket and again at 10 for a 2 inch flap to fold over the front of my folio. I wish I had made my second score at 10, but this was the second one I had made because I glued the pocket upside down in my first one.
I had to start all over and I wasn't about to do it again.I don't know what size journal you are working on so you will have to figure out the measurements for yourself.
Because I chose not to sew my signatures in, I was able to slip my folio under the elastic. If you sewed in your signatures, you can still add a folio by gluing it directly to your page after it's made.
