NATIONAL CLEAN OUT YOUR REFRIGERATOR DAY
Celebrate every day! I want to hear all about your refrigerator cleaning adventures! Share with us: What is the most interesting or surprising thing you have found while cleaning your refrigerator? Can’t wait to read your stories!

National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day on November 15th encourages us to prepare for the upcoming holidays. Get together a soap and hot water-filled bucket, disinfectant, a sponge, and a garbage bag. Then you will be ready for the day!

With family gathering and a large turkey waiting to be roasted, cleaning out the refrigerator makes sense. Not only will we need room before the meals, but we also need space for all of the upcoming leftovers. Many dread this job. However, it is an important task nonetheless.
Due to our hectic and busy lifestyles, the cleaning of the refrigerator gets neglected. Hence the creation of National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. There may be a surprise or two found at the back of the shelves. Things are often pushed back as new food is put in the front and gets forgotten.
HOW TO OBSERVE CLEAN OUT YOUR REFRIGERATOR DAY

-Empty each shelf.
-Completely wipe down the inside of the refrigerator.
Wash drawers and underneath the drawers.
-Throw away all expired food.
-Throw away any moldy food.
-Get rid of anything that you do not use.
-Vacuum condenser coils.
-Vacuum out under the refrigerator.
-Restock shelves and drawers with good food.
-Enjoy your nice, clean, organized refrigerator.

I really should wipe it down before we add more groceries to it. Lately the interesting thing is my lettuce keeps freezing. The temperature is the same but I was putting it in the cheese drawer because I wa buying the big 5 heads at Sams club. Just going back to one head at a time and keeping it in a vegetable drawer. P. S. Frozen lettuce does not thaw out nicely at all. When frozen it is ruined!

The most interesting item I have found in my refrigerator was a purple pebble.
The White Christmas Dream became a reality for us in Rio Grande City in 2004. My son Jerry was completely enchanted with the snow. He decided to save a huge cup of snow in the freezer. It eventually was pushed to the back of the freezer. Years later, when I was cleaning out the freezer, I found Jerry’s cup. All the snow was completely gone. At the bottom of the cup was a little bit of dirt and a purple pebble. Jerry had given me the purple pebble when he was about 5 years old. The pebble related to a favorite book we had. In the book the purple pebble is magical. I had noticed my pebble was missing but never said anything because I didn’t want Jerry to know. I guess since the snow was so magical to him he put the magical rock in it.

That's such a sweet story Lolis! Glad you found your purple pebble!

The last time I really cleaned my fridge was probably 4 yrs ago because it stopped working. I do try to wipe the shelves down every so often but I think it's been a while...starting to see lots of crumbs lately. :D

Thank you Tracy! Here it is. The purple used to be a little deeper.

I clean out my refrigerator a few times a year. The freezer section is another story. I don’t think I have cleaned that out in a few years.
Lolis. Love that you found the purple pebble. I think I know what book that was. Is there a mouse in the story?

Yes! The book is Alexander and the Wind Up Mouse by Leo Lionni. Jerry also bought the book for me at Scholastic book fair, my sweet son!

What a cute and sweet story, Lolis.

No out dated items or leftovers, but the shelves in the door could probably use a wipe down.
