Mon Jan 26 - Hillbilly Characteristics

Well now, pull up a rockin’ chair, grab yourself a cup of somethin’ hot, and get ready—because this month @ Cookin' up Creations we’re takin’ a trip right down to the Ozark roots of the Clampett clan and then hitchin’ a ride straight to the glitzy streets of Beverly Hills. That’s right, your January scrapbooking adventure is inspired by none other than The Beverly Hillbillies—where rustic meets ritzy, simple meets swanky, and we’re all just tryin’ to keep Granny out of the “cement pond.”

As we dive into this homespun meets high-falutin’ theme, it’s time to strike a little “black gold” of your own—creative gold, that is. We’re talkin’ pages that shimmer brighter than Ellie Mae’s smile and layouts that’ll make your creativity bubblin’ up faster than an oil well on a Tuesday.

A few key characteristics, according to Vocabulary.com, of a hillbilly are:

1. Geographic roots - Primarily associated with the isolated, hilly regions of the Appalachians and Ozarks, but the concept extends to other rural areas.

2. Self reliance and skills - Possesses practical skills like fixing things, farming, and understanding the outdoors, making do with what they have.

3. Values - Strong emphasis on family, community, honor, hard work, respect for elders, and patriotism (God, country).

4. Connection to nature - Draws from the land, respects nature, and lives a simpler, more rugged lifestyle.

5. Reseiliance and stubbornness - Perceived as tough, resilient, and sometimes stubborn, embodying both earthy wisdom and a strong independent spirit.

Today’s challenges is to use the sketch provided below from pagemaps.com and select TWO of the characteristics to include on your page. Your choices are:

1. Geographic roots - use triangles to represent the Appalachia and Ozark Mountains

2. Self reliance and skills - use stitching on your page (real or faux)

3. Values - use a red, white, and blue color scheme to represent patriotism

4. Connection to nature - include leaves or flowers on your layout (in photos, patterned papers, or embellishments)

5. Resilience and stubbornness - add a little toughness to your page by including a metal embellishment (brads, staples, eyelets, etc)
