December 26, 2025: Save the Misfits

Join us as we celebrate the wonderfully “imperfect” side of creativity. After all, just like a spotted elephant or a train with square wheels, every scrapbook page deserves a little love and a whole lot of sparkle.

So dust off those forgotten supplies, rescue those unfinished pages, and let’s give our “misfit” projects a happy home — one glittery layout at a time!

December 26, 2025: Save the Misfits

Post by phillisw »

This December, we’re taking a magical trip to the Island of Misfit Toys — where every imperfect creation finds its place and every quirky layout shines! Whether your photos don’t quite match, your embellishments march to their own beat, or your color combos are just a little offbeat, this is the month to embrace the beauty of being unique.

Join us at Cookin' up Creations as we celebrate the wonderfully “imperfect” side of creativity. After all, just like a spotted elephant or a train with square wheels, every scrapbook page deserves a little love and a whole lot of sparkle.

So dust off those forgotten supplies, rescue those unfinished pages, and let’s give our “misfit” projects a happy home — one glittery layout at a time!

A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.

Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....

Today we are visiting the Island of Misfit Toys to save them!

Did you know that the Island of Misfit Toys is in the original 1964 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, but in the very first airing, Santa never rescued the toys; viewers complained, leading to the iconic scene where Santa visits the island being added in 1965. In the initial version, Rudolph and Hermey the Elf promised to help the toys but never returned for them, leaving their fate uncertain.
Key Points:
Original 1964 Ending: Rudolph visits the island, King Moonracer allows them to stay, but Santa doesn't pick them up; the special ends with Rudolph guiding Santa's sleigh.
Viewer Response: Many children wrote letters to NBC expressing concern for the abandoned toys.
1965 Revision: A new scene was animated and added to the special, showing Santa rescuing the misfit toys and delivering them to children, creating the ending most people know today.

My challenge to you is:

Add ink splatters for the snow that was falling in the show.
Add buttons to represent the island.
Add flowers to help make the Misfit Toys more presentable.

Here's mine using Splatters + Buttons + Flowers. :)

{Sorry for the shadows from my scanner.}

Photos of sweet grandson Marcus with his girlfriend and her family. He went camping with them this Summer in New York and went to the Eternal Flame Falls. You can see the flame in the background. (June 2025) :)
