When I was younger, I got pulled over for speeding. I politely asked the officer if he could just give me a warning, and I promised to be more careful. To my relief, he did!
A couple of years later, when I was working at the Social Security office in Washington, D.C.,surrounded by all these gorgeous blue- and green-eyed coworkers, someone mentioned she had gotten a ticket. I casually said, “You should’ve asked for a warning.”
Everyone turned to look at me in disbelief. The woman with the ticket laughed and said, “Yeah, you, with your beautiful brown eyes, you get a warning!”
Up until then, I’d always thought of myself as pretty average-looking, with very common brown eyes. Who knew they could be a superpower?
