Friday 1/23 - Something Old, Something New

Well now, pull up a rockin’ chair, grab yourself a cup of somethin’ hot, and get ready—because we’re takin’ a trip right down to the Ozark roots of the Clampett clan and then hitchin’ a ride straight to the glitzy streets of Beverly Hills. That’s right, your January scrapbooking adventure is inspired by none other than The Beverly Hillbillies—where rustic meets ritzy, simple meets swanky, and we’re all just tryin’ to keep Granny out of the “cement pond.”

As we dive into this homespun meets high-falutin’ theme, it’s time to strike a little “black gold” of your own—creative gold, that is. We’re talkin’ pages that shimmer brighter than Ellie Mae’s smile and layouts that’ll make your creativity bubblin’ up faster than an oil well on a Tuesday.

A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.

Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....

The Beverly Hillbillies is an American television sitcom that was broadcast on CBS from 1962 to 1971. It had an ensemble cast featuring Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, and Max Baer Jr. as the Clampetts, a poor backwoods family from the Ozark Mountains who move to posh Beverly Hills, California after striking oil on their land.

For this challenge, I want you to dig deep in your stash to find something you've been hoarding or forgot you had and create a layout with it. This will represent the time frame of the tv sitcom. To represent the oil that made the Clampetts rich, I want you to include the colors black, gold or brown on your layout. To represent the new life they would live after striking oil, I want you to include something new on your layout.

My old is the SEI paper collection.
I used the color brown.
My new is my great grandson, Kohen Adam.

Here's mine using Something Forgotten or Hoarded (Carta Bella 'Work Hard Play Hard' line from 2015). I was looking for something to use for Evan's golf photos and ran across this. + Black, Gold, or Brown + Something New (Honey Bee Gems). :)

Photos of sweet grandson Evan playing golf for his Middle School team, September 2025. :)
Swing!
