This December, we’re taking a magical trip to the Island of Misfit Toys — where every imperfect creation finds its place and every quirky layout shines! Whether your photos don’t quite match, your embellishments march to their own beat, or your color combos are just a little offbeat, this is the month to embrace the beauty of being unique.

Join us at Cookin' up Creations as we celebrate the wonderfully “imperfect” side of creativity. After all, just like a spotted elephant or a train with square wheels, every scrapbook page deserves a little love and a whole lot of sparkle.

So dust off those forgotten supplies, rescue those unfinished pages, and let’s give our “misfit” projects a happy home — one glittery layout at a time!

A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.

Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....

Each misfit has something that just isn't right yet, it is something unique. My challenge to you is to make a page that is something unique.

Use printed background paper that may not really go with the theme of your page: Thus my tan printed paper with the flowers.
Use something that may not be associated with the activity or people in your photos: Thus there is a cardboard sign holder near the top of my page.
Use something to tie up your page (embroidery floss, string or ribbon): Thus I use some embroidery thread under my buttons.
But mostly have some fun as you think outside the box for some things unique to put on your page

Here is my page. It was certainly a unique celebration for my birthday

Here's mine. I didn't use any birthday themed paper and used a Vicki Boutin Cardboard packaging for my photo matte. Also used twine. :)

Photo of me on my recent birthday, November 2025. :)
Surprise! Time to Party!

Used Safari papers for the Christmas page of my granddaughter receiving an elephant necklace. Used a mouse for the unexpected item.
