August 30, 2025 Challenge: Holiday Reef
Posted: Sat Aug 30, 2025 6:53 am
This month at Cookin’ Up Creations, we’re turning our creative tanks into aquariums of inspiration! Whether your scrappy stash is teeming with color or hiding a few quirky surprises like that one-eyed googly fish, we’re challenging you to open the lid and show us what’s swimming inside.
From bubbly embellishments and underwater hues to layouts that make waves with motion and texture, this month we’ll explore a different part of your crafty ecosystem. Think of it like cleaning out your fish tank—only way more fun and way less smelly.
It’s time to check the filter, stir the waters, and let your creativity flow free. What’s in your tank? Let’s find out—one page at a time.
A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.
Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....
Looking at my layout, you’ll notice I went with a Christmas theme filled with trees, ornaments, stars, and festive details. For this challenge, let’s imagine your holiday memories as part of a vibrant aquarium! Just like coral reefs are decorated with bright colors, textures, and hidden treasures, I want you to “decorate” your page with layers of festive detail.
Your challenge: 1. Create a layout that features at least three decorative elements (such as stars, candy canes, tags, or layered frames) that “swim” around your main photos, almost like fish darting in and out of a reef. 2. Cluster them together to create movement and flow, just like schools of fish in water. 3. Use a background pattern (like my holly leaves) that feels like it could be the “tank” holding your little ecosystem of memories. Your layout does not need to have a Christmas theme.
What’s swimming around in your holiday reef? Can’t wait to see!
