Monday 8/25: Sketch & Boats
Posted: Sun Aug 24, 2025 6:25 pm
This month at Cookin’ Up Creations, we’re turning our creative tanks into aquariums of inspiration! Whether your scrappy stash is teeming with color or hiding a few quirky surprises like that one-eyed googly fish, we’re challenging you to open the lid and show us what’s swimming inside.

From bubbly embellishments and underwater hues to layouts that make waves with motion and texture, this month we’ll explore a different part of your crafty ecosystem. Think of it like cleaning out your fish tank—only way more fun and way less smelly.
It’s time to check the filter, stir the waters, and let your creativity flow free. What’s in your tank? Let’s find out—one page at a time.
A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.
Prize will be a $20 Gift Certificate to their favorite online store (random drawing).....

Happy Monday! For today's "What's in Your Tank?" challenge, I was inspired by boats. No creature(s) would be in a literal fish tank without a boat. This picture was taken of my daughter this past summer while she was taking an evening cruise down the Potomac River. I loved all the soft colors of the evening, and thought it would be the perfect subject matter for a boat themed project. My challenge to you for today is to not only use the sketch created by the talented Karen Gerber for Sketchabilities, but to also create a project featuring boats. Perhaps you could design a project of someone you love on a boat like I did? Or maybe you could create a layout of someone floating around a pool? (Since any type of object you are resting on in the water could be considered a boat!). The possibilities are endless! Boat wakes often leave lines in the water, so as an added bonus, add some striped patterned paper to your project. I'm excited to see your take on this challenge.
