Join us all month long as we pay homage to all things associated with the culture and history of America . . . whether it be apple pie, hot dogs, or baseball . . .we each have something that makes us feel nostalgic and proud of our great USA!
A new Blue Plate Special challenge is posted each Monday (sketch), Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Participants have until the 3rd of the following month to complete and post their creations in the Cookin' up Creations Gallery.

Our challenge today is all about the American Flag.

Origins and Betsy Ross: Legend has it that Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag, known as the Stars and Stripes. The Continental Congress officially approved this flag on June 14, 1777. It featured 13 horizontal stripes (representing the original 13 colonies) and a blue canton with 13 stars.
Changes over time: As more states joined the Union, the flag evolved. Initially, a stripe and a star were added for each new state. However, in 1818, Congress decided to keep the number of stripes fixed at 13, while the stars would match the number of states. The current version, with 50 white stars on a blue field, was adopted in 19601.
Symbolism: The American flag represents unity, freedom, and resilience. It has inspired countless Americans and even served as the backdrop for the U.S. national anthem, written by Francis Scott Key during the War of 18121.

Your challenge today is to create a layout using flags(i.e. banners, pennants, something of a flag origin) use some stripes and also add some stars.
