January 2, 2026: Vittles

Well now, pull up a rockin’ chair, grab yourself a cup of somethin’ hot, and get ready—because this month @ Cookin' up Creations we’re takin’ a trip right down to the Ozark roots of the Clampett clan and then hitchin’ a ride straight to the glitzy streets of Beverly Hills. That’s right, your January scrapbooking adventure is inspired by none other than The Beverly Hillbillies—where rustic meets ritzy, simple meets swanky, and we’re all just tryin’ to keep Granny out of the “cement pond.”

As we dive into this homespun meets high-falutin’ theme, it’s time to strike a little “black gold” of your own—creative gold, that is. We’re talkin’ pages that shimmer brighter than Ellie Mae’s smile and layouts that’ll make your creativity bubblin’ up faster than an oil well on a Tuesday.

The Beverly Hillbillies' food, from Granny Clampett, was classic Appalachian comfort food: hearty, rustic dishes like possum stew, chitlins (chitterlings), corn pone, red-eye gravy, chicken fried steak, goose and dumplings, crawdad boils, and homemade biscuits/bread, often featuring local ingredients and served with potent "spring tonic" (moonshine). It was "vittles" (victuals) made for sustenance, contrasting with high-society Beverly Hills fare, and emphasized simple, flavorful cooking like mashed potatoes, cowboy beans, and sweet potato pie.
Key Dishes & Ingredients:
Meats: Possum, fatback, coon (raccoon), chicken fried steak, pork chops.
Stews & Soups: Possum stew, chicken & dumplings, taco soup, cowboy beans.
Sides: Mashed potatoes, potatoes O'Brien, cornbread, biscuits, green beans, macaroni & cheese, potato salad, cabbage.
Gravy: Cream gravy (for chicken fried steak), red-eye gravy (ham & coffee).
Sweets: Strawberry slaw, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, bread pudding.
Drinks: "Spring tonic" (moonshine), Dr Pepper, coffee, beer/cider.

My challenge to you is to include a photo of some vittles on your page: food that is. I used ice cream.
Spill something on your page such as stews, soup, or gravy: background work that is. I used ink splatters and water stickers.
Cook up some meat to add to your page: Some strips of paper that is. I used the flags next to my photos.
Oh and have some "spring tonic" (moonshine) while working on your page. Just have some fun while you are creating your meal...umm your page.

Here is my meal.....umm page.
