RQOTD July 25, 2020

Post by Kiki Halbert »

Hello everyone! Today's question should be a fun one. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I was thinking about this the other day because I needed reminding that we need to dream a little about our goals. When we stop dreaming about our future, as we often do when we grow up, those goals are harder to achieve. I wanted to be a marine biologist. But we lived in Canada's Capital so it didn't seem likely I would. Now that I live on the West Coast though, I'm closer to that dream and really appreciate the oceans.

I'm not sure what I wanted to be but I always was moving furniture around and designing things so I guess I ended up where my bent was leading me...after a few detours.!

I read somewhere that what you played the most when you were little is what you wanted to be when you grew up. I played Barbies all the time! I did want to go into fashion design when I was little. Would come up with dress ideas for my Grandma to make...But then I started playing teacher. And as I got older, would make myself quizzes to help myself study. And here I am going into year 24 of teaching! Now that I'm older, I really wish I wasn't so squeamish around blood and guts because I think forensics/microbiology would be a fascinating field. But thinking that ship has sailed.

I always waned to be a school teacher. I didn't go to college after high school I ended up training with my uncle who was an oral surgeon and when I came home couldn't get a job since Salt Lake only had 7 and they all had employees that had been with them for a while so I got hired by a dentist . The closest I came to school teaching was decorating the bulletin board at the office. We were a fun office and also did treats on holidays. I guess you could say I was the room mother!

I remember wanting to be a teacher for a while and then a secretary. Never became a teacher but I was a secretary for about 6 months. I was bored stiff and hated it.

I wanted to be a teacher, I loved playing school with my sister, we would line up all our stuffed animals and "teach" them!
