Do you feed the birds in WInter?

I have four feeders out. I get a nice variety of birds. Once in a while the hawk shows up trying to get a meal.

I was just looking at my empty feeder yesterday and wondering if it would confuse the birds if I filled it.

We fed the birds (and the squirrels who shimmied up the pole to the feeder) in Illinois, but not so much here. We throw some food out if we get snow or a freeze but otherwise the birds that stay here all winter seem to fend for themselves pretty well.

It stays warm enough through the winter here that the birds have plenty to eat.
