National Look Alike Day April 20

Ever heard the saying “there’s someone else out there who has the same face as you”? According to you, it’s probably Bradley Cooper or Beyoncé. But in all likelihood, it’s a normal person you’ll never meet (with 7.4 billion people on the planet, there’s bound to be someone else out there who shares some of your features). Regardless, on April 20, we celebrate National Look-Alike Day. It’s the perfect day to try to convince people your match is a celebrity, instead of that completely normal person you bumped into at the supermarket.

NATIONAL LOOK-ALIKE DAY TIMELINE
1980s
Birth of a Holiday
National Look Alike Day is created by television reporter Jack Etzel.

1991
In the Black Lodge
Special Agent Dale Cooper meets his doppelganger in the second season of “Twin Peaks.”

1991
A Female Jerry
In an episode of “Seinfeld,” George’s new girlfriend looks exactly like Jerry.

2001
What Are the Odds?
Two of Hollywood’s most remarkable look-alikes, Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe, make their biggest movie debuts in, “The Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter,” respectively.

NATIONAL LOOK-ALIKE DAY ACTIVITIES
Meet your celeb double
Your celebrity mystery match might be just a few clicks away. Check out some look-alike-generating websites, upload a photo, and live vicariously through your much more famous double. And then, go around telling everyone you're the famous celebrity you look like—only to be told you don't resemble them at all. Don’t get your spirits down though — we believe you’re pretty enough to look like a celebrity.

Play dress up
Sometimes it’s fun to play dress up, so do your best celebrity impression and dress like your look-alike. Let people do double takes while you’re walking down the street. Who knows, someone might even ask you for an autograph! Have you seen the classic Hillary Duff film “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”? That’s exactly what we’re imagining. Be mistaken for a celeb on National Look-Alike Day and you might become the pop star of your dreams!

“Accidentally” match with your best friend
Sometimes the best things come in pairs. Make others look twice by planning a fun, matching outfit with a friend. If you’re joined at the hip (as in wardrobe) there’s no opting out of a friendship now, is there? Maybe your faces don’t look alike at all, but the next best thing is to match outfits.

WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL LOOK-ALIKE DAY
We’re all on the (somewhat) narcissistic side
Most of us think pretty highly of, well, us. Since people are so vain, of course, they think other people resemble them. (Although, we’re sure if you asked the doppelganger, it’d probably be the other way around.) Mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of all? Don’t answer—we already know what you’re going to say.

Opposites (don't) attract
In fact, most of us are looking for intangible similarities in education, humor, and creativity. In fact, we might even be looking for people who look similar. Science says we are more likely to prefer faces which possess some of our own features.

A "double" life
The idea of having a double makes us feel prettier, cooler, more attractive, and even more likable. Moreover, living in the internet age makes it seem like a not-so-strange thing that we might even meet them. So would it be that weird to accidentally stumble across your look-alike on Instagram during National Look-Alike Day? We think not.

Have you ever run into someone who looks like you other than family?

No for me and thank goodness. I would feel sorry for them.

I have similarities with my relatives, but no one else that I know. when I was in 7th grad I brought my school photo home and my dad told me I looked like my Uncle Paul :x I had cut my hair the summer before and this had very short hair as compared to my long hair I had for years. I grew it long again in college ;) We did have twin day at school sometimes and dressed in the same outfit as another teacher (same dress or shirt)

The sweetest thing happens to me with my students every year! My girls get haircuts with bangs, like me! I just adore this! It’s great to be a teacher and I just like to think my hairstyle is not the only thing they will imitate. I always hope to have a positive influence on my students!
