Random Question of the Day - 1/1/2024

Post by tammyfolk »

First off, Happy New Year!

so my question today is, are you having a specific meal today? When I was in the South, we had black eyed peas and collards, etc. Here in the North, they eat pork and sauerkraut.

Not a fan of the sauerkraut, but I did make pork for us last night, and Shawn opened a can (as I'm not making it) of sauerkraut for himself.

Nothing specific today. Maybe we will do rice bowls tonight. For some reason I always think Chinese food on New Years Day. Not sure if that is becase we are tired o eating ham for a week. We always do a meal for New Years Eve. We switched it up this year from cheese fondue and had back and bkeu burgers with olive orderbs we just learned to make last week.

My father always had to have black eyed peas on New Years Day. I hate them but he always made me eat 1 so I'd have a good year.

We all wanted black eyed peas and collards for lunch today, but we didn't want to drive to Columbia for them. Unfortunately, there is no place within 50 miles to get a meal like that here unless you cook it yourself.

No black-eyed peas and collards at this house. NY day is usually snacking on junk while watching football.

I have never heard of any of these foods. We never had any specific menu. When I was a kid we used to go to the mountains and to a hunting club my dad was a member of. We would ride snowmobiles, and everyone brought a dish to pass. We cooked hot dogs over a camp fire.

We usually eat buñuelos, for a sweet new year. It’s a fried tortilla sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. Since we’re not home we just ate chocolate cake.
